Description

Nestled in the heart of the beautiful town of Clare, The Bell Hotel is conveniently located between Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds, 37 miles from Stansted Airport. Clare itself is rich in history with the Lords of De Clare jostling for position in the medieval court. Clare Castle was home to one of the richest women in England in 1350- Elizabeth De Burgh. In fact, one of the crown jewels was found nearby when the Victorian railway was being built. The Bell Hotel itself dates back to at least 1570 when it was known as The Green Dragon. Some of the beams are even older as they were taken from Clare Priory. Enjoy a meal in our Tudor restaurant and investigate. Clare hosts several independent shops, a country park and antique dealers. There's plenty to see and you can unwind in one of our 15 comfortable rooms, perhaps even the Four Poster Room if romance is on your mind! Although history is important we do believe in offering our guests modern conveniences; notably free wi-fi throughout, Sky TV, a function/meeting room with a digital projector and games room with pool table. The stables were converted in 1870 and are now well appointed bedrooms. Our food is all freshly prepared in-house using local suppliers, where possible and we take great pride in providing a friendly and professional service.

The hotel, restaurant and ground floor rooms are wheelchair accessible. Regrettably we do not have a disabled toilet but are happy to assist guests in any way possible.
