Description

Welcome to the charming old 'Spa' town of Moffat dating back to 1218. This real 'boarders gem' has many assets that have made it one of the most popular 'stop off' favourites in Scotland. However, 'just passing through' is fast changing and many people have stayed on to explore and experience this 'magnetic' town where they join the ranks of those who return again and again!. MOFFAT lies within 1.5 miles of the M74 some 30 minutes drive north of Gretna with its ever popular ‘Outlet Village’, Blacksmith’s Forge and Wedding Center. Although surrounded by beautiful hill reaching to nearly 3000' to the north-west, most of Moffat itself is on the level Sitting on ‘the A701 known as the 'scenic route to Edinburgh’ this picturesque town is within one hour’s drive of Glasgow, Selkirk and the Capital itself. It is perfectly placed on the map to explore two of Scotland’s most beautiful, if often overlooked, counties -- Dunfries & Galloway and the Borders. MOFFAT. Became famous in 1870’s as a Victorian Spa town. It boasts an excellent range of hostelries, restaurants and cosy cafes to cater for all tastes. Around the town you will find a selection of large Victorian villas dating back to the late 1700/1800’s. You will find SHOPPING a delight, with many ’break from the norm’ shops on the High Street and Well Street together with the main and three additional outlets of ’the Edinburgh Woolen Mill’ The High Street is unique in that the central area has ’twin’ carriageways overlooked by our famous ’Moffat Ram’ Statue, a newly renovated Town Hall and Cenotaph. The ‘Star Hotel’ is listed as the ‘narrowest hotel’ in the world and the ‘Black Bull’ as one of the oldest hostelries in Scotland. Check out the ‘Moffat Toffee Shop’ and try some of ‘Uncle Roy’s’ famed ‘comestible concoctions’. Station Park is also a must visit. Moffat's Golf Course is best described as 'God's Own Country' PARKING IN MOFFAT IS SURPRISINGLY 'FREE'
