The Falcon Hotel needs some TLC from the top down

I have stayed at the falcon about a year ago it was a very good hotel with excellent food & service and i enjoyed the stay, so i booked it again, however this stay was a disappointment.. the room needed cleaning, the food was a massive let down in my opinion i think they have lost the attention to detail and i will never stay at the Falcon again Read more

A perfect way to start our Wedding Celebrations

As we were getting married at a local venue, the Falcon Inn in Painswick was the perfect location for the Wedding Day Eve Grooms Meal. A memorable stay that made a great start to the wedding celebrations. The welcoming at check-in was friendly. Our evening meal was amazing with the food being exceptional. The rooms were comfortable with some rooms having stunning views across the valley. The breakfast was brilliant and would recommend the full-English to anyone. Will definitely stay there again. Wonderful Pub, but very average room.

No friendly welcome, just given a key and shown where room was located. Towels missing & only given extras after asking twice, no welcome book containing info about the area or facilities. Bathroom was very tired. No loo brush, insufficient toiletries, no lock & door would not shut. The furnishings too big for the room and subsequently, everything was a tight squeeze, side tables at an angle & wardrobe door couldn't be opened. Service inconsistent. Perfect for a Pooch

We wanted a short stay in a hotel that was dog friendly. The falcon was perfect for this - great location close to loads of walks, and opposite from the green space at the church for the early morning/ late evening ablution-related canine requirements. There is a dog-friendly section of the pub, but it isn't separated away from everyone else so you don't lose out on the atmosphere! Read more

Dear Arthur
Many thanks for your comments and score, lunch service is always a difficult one as it can depend on so many factors, weather, school holidays etc and guests don't nessesserily book a table as it is a more casual period compared to dinner service. An overnight stay

Greeting on arrival was good, found the room a bit shabby, very tired furniture, but lots of room, lovely white crisp bed linen, good wi fi,the kettle had to be put on the floor cos the lead wasn't long enough to reach the socket, bathroom, a bit grim, very old shower, no hand rail to step into bath, and no bath mat, very slippy, so I could not shower, have bad hip, great towels. Evening meal was ok chops a bit tough, breakfast ok, poached egg a bit raw. Read more

A pleasant inn let down by a couple of avoidable problems

We stayed one night as part of a walking holiday along the Cotswold Way. We had a friendly welcome from the owner, although we were left to find our own way upstairs to our room. Breakfast was a bit of a disaster - advertised as available from 8, by 8.10 there was no sign of life; then the chef stuck her head around the kitchen door, and said 'oh dear, there's no-one front of house'; she was helpful, but could only do so much on her own. At 8.25 the owner appeared, and normal service resumed. Read more

Response

Dear Richard and Catriona
Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay with Breakfast service on the 16th May, I have spoken to the staff member to discuss the issue further, We have organised a Plumber to investigate the low pressue and basin for this week to resolve these issues. Decidedly underwhelming

While restaurant and bar area are smart and modern the upstairs rooms are very different. Shabby decor, tired lumpy beds and a ridiculously small shower meant our stay was disappointing. We arrived on the local "Goodwill" night and found the town open in the evening with craft fairs, art exhibitions, etc. and a live jazz singer in the bar of the Falcon. Very Christmassy! We viewed the church of St Mary opposite the Inn with its famous yew trees. Dear Mark,
Thank you for the review, bathrooms were in need of updating and are being done. Three newly refurbished now and six bedrooms revamped. It has been a labour of love so far but we are getting there, only 10 months in and the comments thus far have been extremely positive. When you are staying next time give me a call.
Kind regards
David

Excellent location, very friendly and attractive accommodation with good choice of evening menu

Used this hotel as part of a shourt tour around the Cotswolds. Heared that Painswick was a classic Cotswold village and the web site to the Falcon Hotel presented an very good account of what the hotel had to offer.Throughout uor stay service was excellent, room very comfortable with excellent view over the church and the 99 Yew Trees. Evening meal menu was very good selection and food very well presented & tasty. Breakfast was excellent quality, not rushed and set us up for the day's touring Read more

A super place to stay

We stayed here for 4 nights in a nice large room with a comfortable bed. The room overlooked the church and we could see the hills on the other side of the valley. We had dinner every night at the Falcon - the food was excellent. David and his wife obviously enjoy their work - they were ideal hosts. The service and friendliness of everyone was great. The inn itself is full of character. This was an ideal base for exploring the Cotswalds. We would like to visit again. Read more

Knowing that a lovely meal was just downstairs every night - no point eating anywhere else if you stay at the Falcon. Also the friendliness of everyone.

A minor gripe - we used the bath as the shower was not very efficient.

Good value, friendly and clean.

Very brief visit, on business. Accommodation was very good, especially in relation to the business venue. This of course may not be the case for everyone. Staff were very friendly and were prepared to accommodate a request for an early breakfast, which, from experience, I know cannot be taken for granted. Read more

A lovely place to stay in a beautiful location, and great for kids too.

Arrived to a warm welcome, and the children were made a real fuss of, which they loved! Our room was great, large and spotlessly clean with lovely bedding, but obviously not as revamped as the bar and restaurant area. I'm sure this will happen soon though. Evening meal delicious, and again children really well catered for. Slept soundly, no noise from the road outside or the bar downstairs. And breakfast was great, big selection of cold bits, and a great full english - according to Scott! Read more

Dear Paul,
Very fair review and totally constructive. It has been a major 'journey' since we took over back in late May and a magic wand would have been very handy, however owing to the great support we have had locally and indeed by guests like yourself we are achieving our aims more speedily than we thought.
Thanks again for such a positive and honest review.

Dislikes?
There was no mirror by the hairdryer. The taps were difficult to turn off in the bath of the family room. Would have liked blackout curtains. The music in the dining room spoiled the ambience.

Lovely and very friendly place to stay in the Cotswolds

Had a two night stay on our way to a music festival. Initially not too happy with the family room (kids were disappointed with the small size TV) and we were kept awake with some noise from a washing / drying machine. This did however not take away from the very good service and friendliness of the staff. Read more

Very brief overnight stay - David and team were really welcoming and friendly - great atmosphere. The public areas have obviously been refurbished to a high standard the look and feel is very good.
