Description

Our 200 year old farmhouse combines the solid comfort of the past with the modern conveniences of today. The house is set in 2 acres of lush garden which has many unusual varieties of shrubs and trees. When our guests first arrive at Kilmaneen Farmhouse they are offered a welcoming cup of tea which is served with some cake or scones or apple tart or whatever has been freshly baked that day. The self-catering River Cottage which is adjacent to the Farmhouse, combines the feel of a cosy, country cottage with all the modern facilities that help to make your stay a real holiday. Our 134 acre farm is a dry stock farm with young dairy cattle. The rivers Suir and Tar provide the natural boundaries around our farm at Kilmaneen making this an ideal location for a fishing holiday in Ireland. We offer our guests approximately 1km of private fishing on the Suir and 0.5km on the Tar. These rivers provide good fly fishing for wild brown trout fishing and sometimes salmon fishing. At Kilmaneen Farmhouse we try to be self-sufficient by growing as much of our own fruit and vegetables as possible. This year we have our own eating and cooking apples, strawberries, raspberries, rhubarb, figs, pears, plums, grapes, herbs, carrots, parsnips, leeks, red cabbage, green cabbage, courgettes, butternut squash, beetroot, peas, onions among others. All of this produce we use in the preparation of breakfasts and snack for our guests. At Kilmaneen Farmhouse we have a special interest in hill walking and hiking. Kevin is an experienced walking guide and he is always happy to take groups out on the mountains and to share the exceptional beauty of this area. We provide a local shuttle service for walkers and drying facilities for wet clothes and boots. We will also prepare a packed lunch and offer tips and advice about walking in the nearby mountain ranges. Available to guests is an extensive selection of books and maps to help with the planning process.

River Cottage has two small steps to the front door and all rooms are on ground level.
