Best B&B yet!

Booked into The Brunswick as wanted to visit High and Low Force Waterfalls. A very warm welcome, with pot of tea and home-made biscuits, greeted us. We had also booked to have an overnight meal. This was excellent and extremely good value. There was a cosy lounge at our disposal with a roaring log fire. The breakfast was superb. Fresh fruit. lovely bread, cereal of every kind as well as an excellent cooked breakfast using local meats from the butcher. Highly recommended. Read more

Weary foot sore walkers

We were walking the Teesdale Way. The weather had been wet and we were tired. Our welcome was rather half hearted to say the least. The host did not introduce himself and actually spoke as little as possible to us. We did wonder whether this was not the owner but actually a stand in as other reviews had raved about the warm welcome. Read more

The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and some interesting items nit found in most b&bs.

I found it a little disconcerting to have a host who appeared not to be chatty or interested in us or what we were doing. Most b&b owners are "people" people and enjoy the interaction with guests

Comfortable stylish stay

We had a lovely overnight stay in a very clean and wonderfully decorated room. Lovely view across the countryside very quiet. Our host was very friendly and welcoming, breakfast was delicious, my husband said it was better than the mal maison, high quality ingredients. Evening meals served too which smelt delish, but we didn't try this time, I think we would next time. Lots of info on surrounding areas in room and so much info on walks etc in the lounge, well thought out guest house all in all. Read more

A little gem in Teesdale, thoroughly pleased

One night only. Very comfortable, luxe room.
Unfortunately there was (supposedly) a 16th Birthday in the village and there had been an invasion of youth into the local hostelries and the noise, groups talking (seemed as if they were right outside our window)and general disturbance went on well past midnight. Nothing the owners could have done, but relaxation, and sleep, was not easily achieved.
Otherwise we had a lovely room facing onto the main street of the village and were made very welco Read more

Brief but we were welcomed and we were looked after very well.

I was walking the Pennine Way. the day had been foul with quite dense fog and rain. The walk over the moors from Tan Hill in these conditions meant I arrived in waterproofs with wet and filthy boots, gaiters etc. I was told I could sit down and take these off in the hall and able to remove my wet boots clothing in the hall and they were then placed in an adjacent drying room. My son met me here to walk with me the following day. The room was very comfortable. Our stay was brief but enjoyable. Read more

High quality accomodation and nice village to stay in.
Very accommodating to my requirements re: breakfast.
Great packed lunch provided - would recommend.
Dislikes?
Most rooms I understand have ensuite baths - mine only had an ensuite shower room which was very nice but I really would have liked a bath. The accommodation was fully booked so I couldn't be moved.

Very Good Food with Clean and Comfortable Surroundings

We stayed 2 nights and ate one evening meal in the hotel which was really enjoyable, well cooked and presented. The breakfast was excellent with a good choice and lots of local produce. We ate out locally the second night but the food was not so good. Read more

Good food and very warm and comfortable bed. We appreciated the fresh milk, water and fruit available in our room. A good welcome on arrival. Quiet but friendly host. Well placed for village and walks

The bedroom was a little cramped - the television was placed too high to view comfortably from the sofa. Parking access narrow between the buildings but this was unavoidable and glad it was offroad.

Thankyou for your feedback. I accept that there was much more noise outside this weekend than is normal due to the annual village carnival celebrations which can get a little too boisterous. Fortunately this only takes place once a year.

A pleasant stopover on the long drive to Scotland.

We stopped over after a long drive from south, checked in, had a nice meal across the street at the hotel/pub, and then returned for a rest at Brunswick house. There is a small terrace at the rear of the property, which overlooks a mountain stream and provides a quiet retreat. Middleton on Teesdale was a perfect point of departure the next morning for a drive across the northern Pennines. Read more

Warm welcome, well-appointed accommodation, good breakfast, convenient location

We received a warm welcome and found the accommodation well appointed and very clean, with sufficient room storage space for our needs. It was especially useful having a 'fridge in the room to allow us to store perishables. We only stayed for three nights, but were able to discover how good a location Middleton is for access to spectacular walking areas. Read more

Good room size, friendly atmosphere, breakfasts of a high standard, convenient location, lots of information in a comfortable lounge area.

Access to car parking at the rear was through a narrow gap, so great care had to be taken in negotiating this. Short of knocking down the neighbouring house, there is little that can be done about it.

It was good to have an en suite bathroom, unfortunately due to lack of space the bathroom was very cramped with a tiny bath. However, it was a bath and there was plenty of hot water.

REst after a hard day's walking

Thsi was a gem of a B&B. The only small gripe would be that we weren't warned about teh narrow driveway between the houses, which would have made it impossible for us to park if we had brought the 4x4.
That said, the room was excellent, lovely and warm with a very comfortable bed. The shower was one of the best we have seen in a B&B, and the breakfast was also excellent. Not only was there the standard fried breakfast, but also a choice of continental breakfast, porridge and fresh fruit. Read more

Response

The entrance to the car park is quite narrow but we have had many guests negotiating it with Range Rovers and the like. For anyone not confident there is ample safe free parking on the street outside or a free public car park less than 50 metres away.

The breakfast. The fresh fruit included melon, strawberries and fresh plumbs, as well as teh more standard apples and bananas, which was a lovely surprise.
