we found it a little uncomfortable in the bar area in the evening as most other guests were staying for business reasons - without exception they spent the evening on their phones or tablets and did not even look up to say good evening! After a series of nights in corporate hotels we were initially nonplussed by the relaxed service and informality of Forss House, but we adjusted rapidly and soon felt totally comfortable and at home. Overnight, en route Orkney. Lovely room, massive bed, slept well despite a mattress that dips in places. Bathroom spectacular. Food and menu promising but aspects of it were odd (beetroot seemed uncooked) and portions were on small side. We had a very relaxing weekend at Forss House. The whole experience was great - we were looked after really well. Forss House always feels more like visiting friends than staying in a hotel; it is quite unique. We had dinner with family and friends and again at lunch on Sunday; everything was good. I recommend the hotel very highly. Read more

overnight stay as part of a highland tour. the location and aspect of the hotel was lovely and so was dinner that evening. but to be honest the bedroom gave me the creeps. Whilst i could not fault the bathroom the bedroom was like something from an old peoples home down to the slime green coloured candlewick bedspread. come on forss house bring yourselves into the 21st century. people expect more contemporary fittings for these sorts of prices! Beautiful building and glorious setting. Lovely and quiet. Room facilities high standard. Service a little fussy and formal but helpful. Breakfast excellent. Dinner kindly served after 8.30pm to accommodate me. Thank you. Menu fine. Rice pudding excellent. Main course (lamb) sacrificed flavour and quantum for pretention, I thought. Over-priced dinner menu. I would recommend to others. Read more

For the first time in several years of travelling to Orkney we decided to take an overnight stop en route, to break the long journey and treat ourselves to a little luxury. We arrived late afternoon, received a very warm welcome, settled into our room, explored the grounds, had a delicious evening meal in the restaurant, a very pleasant evening in the bar, a good night's sleep followed by a full and tasty breakfast before we set off on our journey north. A great start to our holiday! Read more

We stayed one night at the north coast of Scotland and were surprised about the beautiful location of the hotel.
At first we were offered a small room, but after asking for a bigger bed, we got a spacy room with great bathroom facilities, although the ceiling was in repair. Read more
One night stay on our way to Durness. We stayed in a Twin fishing lodge as we had our dog with us, the lodge was very comfortably furnished and spacious. A liesurely walk in glorious sunshine by the River Forss before dinner. The produce and cooking of our meal was of the highest standard - locally sourced and in season. Read more

We are really disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay.
Rooms were a good size but very old fashioned. Horrible blankets instead of duvets. Bathroom was great but overall very over priced. Would not even contemplate staying here for half the price it is per night. Read more
We are sorry you were not happy and did not think you got value for money. Our 5 year refurbishment programme finishes this year when we have painted the exterior of the house. Our first priority was to improve the inside with the bedrooms and bathrooms upgraded. We felt blankets gave more of a country house feel but we do have king-size duvets if a guest prefers one. It's a pity you missed our dining experience with 2 rosette food and also the interaction in the bar.
