Great service and a nice place to stay

On arrival, I could not have asked for more help. I was given a warm welcome and help in finding everything i needed. The hotel was clean and tidy and, although perhaps a little dated, absolutely fine for my overnight stay. The grounds and location were beautiful and the local area full of opportunities to explore. Unfortunately, my trip didn't allow time for that. My only slight criticism was that the shower water pressure was weak and the bathroom could do with modernising. Recommended. Read more

A Homely and Relaxing Retreat

My wife and I stayed three nights in the tranquil beauty of Exmoor. Enjoying excellent, if exhausting country and coastal walks right from the doorstep we also copped out and rode the narrow gauge steam railway starting from the station at the end of the garden! Wonderful pubs in the vicinity but the hotel dinner proved a superb option and good value. Being an erstwhile railway hotel it's a great place for train enthusiasts, full of railway history. We weren't surrounded by anoraks, though. Read more

Ideal place if visiting the Lynton & Barnsatple Railway

Beautiful setting and grounds. We were there in Autumn but it must be a lovely spot on a good summer's day Read more

No proper shower. Colleague in single room said he could only get tepid water to wash in in the morning. Broken bedside lamp in double room which was not mentioned when room handed over on arrival.

Exmoor seclusion with a view

A great place to go for exploring Exmoor whilst still being near a main road. Also has the historical advantage of being associated with the newly resurrected Lynton and Barnstaple narrow guage steam railway which appears magically through the trees at the side of the grounds. Read more

Adequate break if you want to do nothing

The bed and breakfast was nice if you want to listen to steam trains and lambs, the beds for us were very hard but if you like hard beds they will be fantastic for you, we have at home a memory foam bed these do not apply in bed and breakfasts we did not take this into account, we thought that the price of the bed and breakfast was very high for 1 night but except we were there for 1 night only. Description

Moorlands is a 19th Century bed & breakfast hotel offering stunning views of the countryside thanks to its location set in 4 acres of gardens and grounds within the Exmoor National Park. Situated within two miles walk or drive of the beautiful North Devon coast path at Woody Bay. Only four miles away are the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth which offer a wide range of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as Woolacombe and Croyde beaches. Our emphasis is on peace and relaxation supplemented with excellent breakfast served in our dining room with views over the gardens towards the Heddon valley, Trentishoe common and further towards Wales. Our residents lounge is available to relax next to our real fire with a book from our small library or a nightcap from the bar. All rooms are en-suite with bath or shower, fully centrally heated with quality furnishings, colour TV and beverage making facilities. Two rooms are located on the ground floor if required. We also offer two self catering suites sleeping 2 / 3 up to 6 persons where dogs are welcome in the Dean suite. Please be advised the self catering suites are not included in the 3 star rating of the property. There are a range of activities available in the area for guests such as horse riding, tennis, golf, fresh and sea fishing. There are acres of Exmoor to explore either with map and compass or one of the many Exmoor Ranger walks arranged by the National Park Authority. Accessible from our gardens is the lovingly restored Woody Bay Station, offering a step back in time with regular steam train rides towards Parracombe.

Two rooms and one self-catering apartment are on the ground floor.
