Lovely place, friendly staff and incredible food.

Stayed for a week to explore Norfolk. Is a bit far from the northern coast and a bit rural but i really enjoyed my stay. The people who run it are very friendly and have great knowledge of Norfolk. Great selection of breakfast from many kinds of cereal and porridge, crossiants, and locally sourced ingredients for a full English. Rooms are large and have they're own showers and toilets. There is a selection of board games and books for guest to use and lots of tourism leaflets. Read more

Dear Jennifer
Thank you for leaving a review following your recent stay with us. We are delighted that we met your expectations and hope that if ever you are back in the area we see you again.
It is unfortunate that you may have missed the way to Long Stratton as it is only 2 1/2 miles away and may have gone the long way. Sorry for that. Many enjoy the rural setting although only 15 miles from the centre of Norwich.
Kind Regards

Almost everything. If you don't mind a 15 minute drive to long Stratton which has pubs petrol stations supermarkets and take ways then the location is not a problem and it is perfect.

A pub within walking distance would have been nice, the one opposite was closed down. But that's independent of the guest house.

Thank you for your kind review. We are pleased that we met your expectations. It is a shame that the pub next door wasn't serving food at the time you were here as when they are cooking the meals are reputidly excellent. South Norfolk is rural and we do have quiet dark country lanes, we can appreciate that these may be tricky to navigate if they are unfamiliar to you. We really hope that his won't deter you from visiting us again if you are returning to visit your friends.

There was plenty of shelves and towel rails in the room which are often lacking in places we have stayed. And anything that you could want for breakfast was available. The bed was very comfortable.

The only problem was finding somewhere near the guest house to eat in the evening without travelling on very narrow roads which in the dark is quite scarey.

Friendly B&B with a lot of spiders

Our stay was very brief, as we arrived late and checked out early. Very friendly and welcoming with a nice breakfast. Our only complaint was that we found five spiders in our room, all in very established webs. One was a huge house spider lurking behind the toilet in a huge web. It went into its hole before we could remove it, so going to the bathroom during the night was a tender affair. Read more

Response

Thank you, sorry we failed.
Spiders and webs are removed daily.
Unfortunately the house is surrounded by a field, hedges and trees. With the recent hot weather; windows were open, allowing access for them, a common spider can establish a web within hours, long after cleaning has taken place.

Quiet countryside retreat

I booked 3 rooms for an overnight stay. The rooms were all comfortable and not overly expensive. We wanted to visit Norwich as our first Grand child has just been born but wanted to stay outside the city in a rural location. This was Ideal. We even saw a deer poke it's head out of the grass as we drove onto the large car park at the side of the B&B. We will be staying at this lovely old school house again in the future. Read more

Response

Thank you. We only have two 'saniflow' toliets, both in the old school section, 8 normal loos ! :-)

Hospitality is the word that springs to mind. The hosts are friendly and helpful, the food is delicious, the rooms clean and inviting. It's a perfect place for a relaxing weekend.
Dislikes?
The toilets are micro bore and make a bit of a noise when flushed in the night but this is unavoidable and the rest of the accomodation makes up for this slight inconvenience.

We found SNGC on the web and it fitted our itinerary. We were very pleasantly surprised to find everything as described (and more) when we checked in - unlike some where we have just walked away.

Lovely to see you again. Wished that you had asked about the window, the lock stops it opening wide with a high risk of falling out! But it opens in with the lever upright! Water we thought we had solved, since installing a high pressure system for a better shower the system developed this noise, which we traced and stopped, only the week before your stay, the water company flushed the system increasing the pressure which must have started this up again. Will trace the offending pipe. Thank you.

2 nights in a family room with 2 small children. Facilities in the bedroom good, with both children having their own single bed - a bonus we weren't expecting. Breakfast was lovely with a good variety. Read more

Very relaxed atmosphere. Owner could not have been more helpful with things to see and best direction/routes etc. Well equipped B&B,books, games, TV etc.
Dislikes?
Difficult to locate as well away from main road. But once you get use to place its fine. But only one pub & nowhere close by to eat. Not the sort of place to walk around at night-no street lights!

Very comfortable and very welcoming

Oakbrook Guest House is a very useful base for walking the Angles Way. I used it for four nights but you do need your own transport to get to and from the guest house. I was made very welcome and the cup of tea on my arrival was an excellent start. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner. The whole place was very well organised qwith all the facilities you could want. Read more

To be recomended, well situated for South Norfolk etc, quiet and next to a good local Pub.

We know the area well, having lived nearby for 20 years and so our choice was good, ticking all our box's for a cenral position for the surrounding area, yet in the heart of the countryside and the friendly local people.
We were treated by a warm and friendly welcome and could not think why any one should not want to return. Read more

Comfortable stay in a peaceful setting with very welcoming friendly owners

Was greeted on arrival and given a pot of tea. Instantly made to very welcome. Room was comfortable and clean, and big enough but not especially large. Toilet and wash hand basin were en-suite but shower was separate to the main room just down the corridor. The shower was just for my room. Might but some people off but did not overly bother me. (Mine was a standard double). Dining area very good and had a very decent breakfast to set me up for the day. Read more

Friendly Service with good facilities

Owner very accomodating in every sense of the word. Warm welcome and rooms very cosy. Good facilties and an eye for detail. A little cramped fromspace in some of the rooms which had obviously had to be dapted to be in sympathy with the building. Read more

Response

Thank you, major upgrade since stay has occurred, achieving 4 star Tourist Board grading. Downstairs rooms ideal for single use, around the size of a standard double room in a normal house, small for B&B doubles, we therefore recommend booking upstairs deluxe rooms for two, although the price downstairs is a draw as it is cheap.

Likes?
Helpfulness and Flexibility of owner.
Dislikes?
Rooms a little small with some makeshift facilties e.g. "en-suite" shower/toilet

Description

The South Norfolk Guest House offers a warm and friendly welcome to individuals, families and groups within this former village school. With 9 comfortable en-suite bedrooms (4 ground floor), we cater for both short and long term stays. There is a local shop, the neighbouring Fox and Hounds country pub (at present closed due to illness) or Countryman at Tasburgh, cycle routes and plenty of walks within the area. Located centrally between Norwich and Diss, access to South Norfolk's numerous market towns such as Wymondham, Harleston, Loddon, Hingham, Bungay, Beccles and Attleborough are all found within a small radius. So whether guests are visiting friends, on holiday in the county, working in the area, visiting the region's famous steam museums, driving/spectating at the new Snetterton 300 race circuit, attending the auctions rooms at the nearby market towns... a comfortable stay is guaranteed whatever the reason. Beyond this people can relax and witness the world famous Norfolk Broads (Wroxham, Hoveton, Horning, Hickling, Coltishall, Beccles) with its 125 miles of navigable waterways and precious wildlife. Or they can go to Norwich and discover its fine heritage, with a buzzing cultural scene, superb restaurants, and voted as one of the UK's top ten shopping places! For those seeking the sea, then the coastal towns of Southwold, Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth, Cromer and Sheringham will not disappoint. We accept credit and debit cards without charge, and pets by prior arrangement in one double room only, Elm. Downstairs rooms are available for the less able bodied.

We will try to be fully honest on what we have, but recommend where possible that a local friend/relative pre-visits to inspect our premises. Those who are able to walk should be able to cope with relative ease, as we have 4 downstairs rooms available (value range only), one of which has a walk in 'greek' shower. The rooms downstairs are not large however, so please view the photos for a better perspective. Unfortunately these rooms are dependant on availability, unless by the owner's discretion. The drive at the front of the building is predominantly shingle, although wheel chairs can be pushed over the surface with relative ease. There is a hard concrete loading bay which can be reserved upon request at the side of the building, which is a short distance from the front door. There is a large, internal ramp found at the entrance to the property, as the house's former use was as a Care Home for the elderly. Please contact us if you have any queries, thank you.
