Hanna, born to Ernst and Antoinette after their arrival in Texas, was the middle child. In her later years, she returned to care for her aging parents and stayed in this room. This is the largest suite in the house. There are 2 rooms adjoining, and the bathroom is in the second bedroom. Pocket doors close for privacy between the 2 rooms, although access is through the first room. There is a dressing screen you can pull across the shower for privacy while the doors are open. Each bed is a queen size, and very comfortable, with 650 thread count sheets. A small refrigerator is in the closet, which was built from the back of the stage at Gruene Hall.

The Founder's Room was the all-purpose room when built back in 1850. There was a sleeping room above, but access was removed during the 1876 additions. Antoinette's Cottage Information
Description
In the oldest part of the house, I have left the walls much as I found them, adding to the feeling of being in history. timber framed cedar posts and beams, infilled with adobe brick and plastered over with lime plaster is charming all by itself. The Gruene's added 3 rooms to the front of the house in high Victorian Eastlake style, with 12' ceilings, tall windows to let in lots of light, and gorgeous red pine floors, an extinct species which gives the house that Wonderful "old house smell". In the back are the workrooms of board and batten construction, but that is currently off-limits to guests. I have added a large pergola to the side of the house for the enjoyment of all guests. To my right is the parking lot for Gruene Hall, and the location for many fun runs bike races and music festivals. Beyond that is the intersection of Hunter Rd and Gruene Rd, where many other shops and restaurants are located.
The front porch is ideal for watching the world go by, visiting with friends or other guests, or just listening to the wonderful music that wafts across the street from the Gruene Grove. Surrounding me are the Gruene River Grill directly across the street and at the riverfront, The Gruene Grove, which is an outdoor bar with great music, shopping to my left and right, including our newest antique shop in the red brick which was Henry Gruene Junior's house. About 5 blocks closer to I-35 is a new shopping area with a wonderful restaurant, the Gruene Door, which features organic gourmet food. Other shops line Gruene Lake Dr.
