Buffalo Tavern Bed and Breakfast Information


Historic Buffalo Tavern Bed and Breakfast is located in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains near West Jefferson, Todd, Glendale Springs, Jefferson, Blowing Rock and Boone, NC in Ashe County. Enjoy a NC mountain private getaway in a relaxing country setting that is only a short drive to downtown West Jefferson Arts District, area attractions including historic Todd and Glendale Springs, and a scenic 40 minute drive to Boone and Blowing Rock. An inviting full country breakfast is served in the Dining Room at 8:30 am each day. Coffee and tea is available at 7:45 a.m. in the parlor. Accommodations for earlier breakfast can be made if needed by guests. Just put the request in when making your reservation. There are numerous attractions: hiking, biking, canoeing, West Jefferson Arts District, fine dining restaurants, antique shops, the Fresco Paintings and the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is also plenty of time to kick back on the front porch and do absolutely nothing but enjoy the beautiful scenery.

  • Road from Hwy 421 (17.0 miles)

    Directions to Buffalo Tavern from Charlotte, Raleigh, Winston, Wilkesboro, NC etc.....take 421 north towards Boone. You will pass through North Wilkesboro. Go approximately 20 miles until you pass under the Blue Ridge Parkway (You will see the sign for it.). At the bottom of the hill after you pass under the Blue Ridge is a stop light at Deep Gap. That's Hwy. 221. Turn right at that light to West Jefferson. Continue on Hwy. 221 for about 10 miles until you come to a traffic light. Turn left there on Hwy.194.

    OR turn right on Hwy 16 on the outskirts of Wilkesboro, and continue on Hwy 16 until you reach Hwy 163 just past the Blue Ridge Parkway. Then follow the directions below.

    Directions from Boone…….Take Hwy. 421 South towards Wilkesboro, Winston-Salem. About 10 miles outside Boone you will pass a Dollar General on your left. The next traffic light is Hwy. 221. Continue on Hwy. 221 for about 10 miles until you come to a traffic light. Turn left there on Hwy.194.
    Then continue to follow the directions below.

    Directions from Blue Ridge Parkway…….Exit parkway at Hwy 16, toward West Jefferson, Jefferson, Glendale Springs. Go approximately 1/4 mile and turn left on Hwy 163. Continue on Hwy 163 until you reach Hwy 194 / 221 intersection and then follow the directions below.
    You will see CVS Pharmacy on your right, Ingles and McDonalds just ahead on your left. Continue straight to downtown West Jefferson. Go through downtown West Jefferson. Continue on the same road for about 1.5 miles. During that area you will pass 2 different convenience stores on your right hand side. The second store is Miller’s Country Store. Approximately 1/4 mile past it, get in the left turn lane to turn left on Buffalo Road. After turning left, continue on Buffalo Rd for 3.5 miles. DO NOT TURN OFF BUFFALO RD. Continue to follow the yellow line and we are on the right hand side of the road.
    Buffalo Tavern is on the right with a four rail white fence and sign out front. There are two lantern-type lights in the driveway, and one light at the road. When you come in the driveway there are five spots at the end of the white fence where you can park facing the Inn. The entrance is in the front of the Inn, facing the road.
