The Bird in Hand Information

The Bird in Hand is a family run freehouse and restaurant set in the heart of the beautiful Norfolk countryside where you are always assured of a warm welcome from the whole team. Under the same family ownership since 2008, the Bird has been a public house for over 200 years with the first recorded landlord taking the reins in 1794. We offer an eclectic mix of the modern and traditional with our extensive menus all lovingly prepared in house by our creative kitchen brigade. Award winning breakfasts and daily fresh specials complement our lunchtime and evening menus and you can choose from a range of dining areas both inside and outside (weather permitting!). Perfectly situated for Lotus Cars and Hethel Engineering Centre with good transport links to the A11, we are also within easy reach of Norfolk and Suffolk's best attractions including the Suffolk Heritage Coastline, Banham Zoo, Pleasurewood Hills theme park and Go Ape Thetford. The historic town of Wymondham is just a ten minute drive and if shop til you drop is more your thing, you'll find a mixture of quirky boutiques, department stores and high street retailers only six miles away in the renowned shopping city of Norwich. We're certain you'll enjoy your stay with us in one of our beautifully appointed guest bedrooms where quality comes as standard, from the sumptuous king size Hypnos beds and Egyptian cotton bedlinen to all the little extras we offer. Each individually decorated room is kitted out with tea and coffee making facilities, bathtub with shower (excluding our wheelchair accessible room), luxury miniature toiletries, ironing facilities and a hairdryer. Come and experience the best Norfolk has to offer at the Bird in Hand where the whole team will make your visit truly memorable.

David bought the Bird in Hand in 2008 having been in the licensed trade for over forty years with the aim of offering the very best traditional British public house experience. The business soon went from strength to strength and in 2015 eight luxury guest bedrooms were added to the property, which now offered accommodation for the very first time. As David's daughter Lizzie, I have recently taken over the business with my brother Alex to allow Dad a well-earned retirement after all his hard work. I've worked at the Bird in Hand for the last twenty years and lived in the village for thirty, so you could say I know the business fairly well! South Norfolk is a truly special place to be with a host of wonderful locations right on our doorstep, unspoilt countryside which is a haven for flora and fauna (not to mention those who enjoy walking!), and quirky historic towns within its boundaries. Both myself and the whole Bird in Hand team look forward to welcoming you and helping you make the most out of your stay with us.
