Bowlish House Information

Description

Bowlish House offers you a home from home without the hassle, but with a warm and friendly welcome. Each bedroom has its own style whilst retaining the original character of the house. It is close to the Mendip hills, the cathedral city of Wells, Glastonbury, Wookey Hole, Cheddar and 18 miles from Bath. This Georgian Palladian house, classed as Grade II*, has various features of special interest – the original Mendip lead drainpipes at the front carry the crest of the original owners and the year of completion, 1732. The walls and pillars topped with urns which formed the entrance of the old gardens are also singled out for specific mention. A small spring rises under the cellar of Bowlish House and links up with an underground stream routed diagonally across the cellar floor just under the old flagstones. Thus the temperature of the large cellars is more constant than otherwise and varies by no more than 2 or 3 degrees either side of the ideal 50 ºF. Bowlish House is an interesting and peaceful location in which to escape and enjoy top quality food, or to get away from it all with friends and family.

Bowlish House

Come away from your daily routine and indulge in the tranquil seclusion of Bowlish House. We're well equipped for weary travellers and romantic weekends away alike. Located in the beautiful Georgian village of Bowlish, this perfect example of early Georgian architecture is the ultimate haven for a peaceful escape, an all-inclusive intimate wedding, a respectful wake or a quiet business meeting. We’re nestled on the Wells Road a stone’s throw from local attractions such as the ancient Cathedral city of Wells, Longleat Safari Park, Wookie Hole Caves, Glastonbury Tor, and the vibrant local towns of Frome and Bruton. Bowlish House was completed in 1732 and is a Grade II Georgian house. Though lovingly restored, Bowlish House is not without its quirks, for example our creaky original floorboards. Guests can select from the Double Room, Family Room or three King Rooms which all feature smart-enabled flat screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. A continental breakfast is included in cost of booking. . Our hand event spaces are open to guests for private bookings, and our well-appointed sittings rooms feature roaring fires, classical portraiture, and cosy seating. We look forward to welcoming you.
