The lodge was built in 1835 as a hunting lodge for Sir John Richard Cotterell and is situated privately on its own in the middle of 350 acre woodland on the family estate about a mile up a track. The lodge had not been used for probably 60 years but is now renovated to keep its charm and to make it comfortable for guests with proper beds and a sink with hot running water provided from its own well. It is completely off grid, with solar power for some light and to power the fridge. The lodge has three woodburners - one in each of the bedrooms and one in the sitting room. Wood is provided for you. The beds will be made up ready for your arrival and bath towels are also provided. The bathroom is found in a separately accessed outhouse house with a gas powered modern walk-in shower, wash hand basin and flushing loo, so this is not quite a typical camping experience, more like experiencing a turn back in time. There is a small camping stove for cooking, and also a huge firepit and outside sitting area with a woodfired hot tub nestled on the edge of the woodland. The lodge is ideal for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids). One well behaved dog is welcome. The closest bus and train service is Hereford, 9 miles away, your own transport is recommended.

This unique amalgamation of real-life military equipment - including an army safari tent, tipi and a bomb shelter bathroom - combine to create this wonderful themed woodland hideaway. The beautifully secluded site sits high on the hillside with breathtaking views of the Herefordshire countryside and offers a whole range of brilliantly themed army zones just for you. Whether you're looking for a unique romantic getaway or fun-filled family escape this fabulous woodland camp has so much to offer. The electric lighting is battery powered, there is no internet access provided. The main living quarters is a genuine ex-military safari tent, which comes complete with two woodburning stoves, chesterfield sofa, double bedroom and a fully functional kitchen. All the little extras from the pots and the pans to the coffee table are wonderful examples of real-life military gear, each with their own intriguing back story. The super-insulated army tipi contains two single beds plus another woodburner, which makes a great second bedroom for kids, friends or another couple. An open plan kitchen tent, with fully recycled army equipment, of course, is perfect for a family feast, while the barbecue and fire-pit outside offers another place to dine amongst the majestic woodland setting. The bathroom is styled in the form of an air raid shelter, beautifully installed with a shower, toilet and hot running water, while the transparent roof looks up towards the trees protruding into the sky, creating a really magical outdoor experience. From the lodge, the lookout point offers another seating area to enjoy the gorgeous Herefordshire countryside. There is no internet access to the property, one well behaved pet is welcome. There is private parking at the site, but being situated along a track at the top of a hill, low lying cares may need to park further away and transport can be arranged to the camp.

Lunch or dine by the pizza oven or fire pit and relax in the hot tub to gaze at the stars. Mrs Higgs' Lodge will make you feel like you have stepped back in time. Built in 1835 as a hunting lodge, this charming little stone house was last occupied by Mrs Higgs 60 years ago. Since then, the forest slowly reclaimed it. It now provides a perfect retreat for from modern life and an experience of a bygone lifestyle. Heating throughout is from wood burning stoves only, however a few concessions to modernity such as a gas stove, instant hot water and a flushing loo. There is also a wonderful hot tub right next to the cottage which guests can use in total privacy. The General's Hideout is themed as a private 'barracks', yet offers complete comfort. Get back to nature, and escape your hectic lifestyles, follow the trails through the woods and shower in an 'air raid shelter'. This camp has two canvas tents for sleeping - with one having a living area and indoor kitchen and a hot shower and flushing loo. There is a wonderful wood fired hot tub here too! The Safari Camp is a large tent set next to a babbling brook and is a short stroll to the River Wye and a private picnic area. There is gas cooking, and of course a huge large firepit . Another hut provides hot shower and flushing loo. River Orchard Camp is a restored gypsy wagon and a large bell tent set in a pretty orchard with steps down to a secluded spot right on the River Wye. There is a field kitchen and also an outdoor shower and flushing loo.
