Description

Built in 1865 the Dominion Hotel is the oldest building in the idyllic town of Minden and the oldest commercial building in Haliburton county. This historic hotel is located on the Gull River in beautiful Downtown Minden and features well appointed, modern, comfortable overnight suites in a casual setting. This property has recently been renovated from top to bottom. Our beautiful suites are sure to please. Our suites are well appointed with the most comfortable beds in the industry made by Stearns and Foster. Each room has a LCD TV for your entertainment. Rooms have a Keurig coffee maker, bottles of water and complimentary snacks. Every attempt is made to make guests feel "at home". Our rooms are professionally decorated with stylish appointments. Rooms all have individual air conditioning and heat controls. Rooms also have fridges and microwaves. Relax with lunch or dinner in our formal dining room, our casual restaurant, or have a drink by the bar. Our Tiki Bar is the outdoor eating location of choice for the downtown. Our kitchen has been recognized as one of the best in the area and our staff are friendly and accommodating. We are at your service. Being on the bank of the Gull River opens many possibilities for activities. From fishing, swimming, tubing or even just a walk around the Riverwalk, a paved trail around the river, there is a lot to do over four seasons in Minden. We have ample parking on-site for vehicle, ATV, Snowmobile or truck. Free Wi-Fi for guests. We feature live entertainment and you can see some of the best international and local artists. Tickets are available online. Check our website to see if there is a show during your stay. We're proud to be environmentally conscious. Our recycling and reuse programs have saved tons of garbage. We have an eco-worm farm that allows us to turn kitchen cuttings into soil for our gardens which then produce flowers and herbs for our use.

Dominion Hotel owners, Shawn and Elli Chamberlin, have a long history in hospitality. From operating restaurants and having rental cottages to extensive travel and staying in a variety of accommodations around the country, they have learned much about creating a great guest experience. And they are still learning! It is their objective to see each guest treated as if they were a A long time fan of comedian and actor, Bob Newhart (Shawn shares a September 5 birthdate with him) led to the inspiration for owning and operating a small inn in a quaint town. Bob's TV Series in the 1980s starred Bob Newhart and Mary Frann as an author and wife who owned and operate an inn located in a small, rural Vermont town that was home to many eccentric characters. Observing the lifestyle in the series led to a speck of jealousy and a lot of inspiration. They finally acted on this inspiration in 2004. They have found that the TV series is closer to life than they thought it would be. Similar to the TV series where Bob continues to work as an author and his wife has family and community interests close to heart, Shawn has an active schedule of music performing and Elli keeps everything together.

All of our rooms are on the 2nd floor. As we are a historic property there is no elevator to access. Therefore the rooms are not accessible at this time. Our restaurant has handicapped accessible access and facilities.
