Harbour House Information

COVID 19 - WE TAKE YOUR SAFETY, AND THAT OF OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR HOUSEKEEPING STAFF VERY SERIOUSLY. PLEASE READ OUR TERMS & CONDITIONS BEFORE BOOKING. Harbour House was built in 1839 and was designed by celebrated Scottish engineer Thomas Telford. It forms part of a row of houses known by photographers the world over as one of Skye's most famous scenes. Originally described as 'neatly furnished and well adapted for respectable families', one of the first occupants was Captain John MacKenzie, who sailed the Hebridean seas as well as further afield. Today you'll find that a hint of its maritime past continues in the carefully chosen décor. Harbour House is designed to be cosy and comfortable, with lots of space for friends and families and your own private sitting out space on the water's edge. In spite of its superb location, the house is remarkably quiet, being on the calm, largely traffic-free side of the harbour and come nightfall all you tend to hear is the sound of the water and the yacht masts clinking in the breeze. Downstairs. facing the sea there is a cosy lounge with woodburner and a large kitchen-diner well-equipped for all your catering needs (with utility off). To the rear there is a family room with table football. Upstairs there are two sea-facing bedrooms, one with a kingsize and the other with a superking bed and a third twin bedroom at the rear. There are two bathrooms, one with shower and the second with a bath and over bath shower. Parking is available for 2 cars. Staying in Harbour House is the opportunity to share in a little of Skye's history with all the comforts provided to make your stay enjoyable. Luxurious Arran Aromatic toiletries and top quality hotel linens are included for your enjoyment. A starter pack of logs for the wood burning stove is also provided. You will find the property superbly located not only to walk from the door and visit the shops, cafes and restaurants of Portree but also to explore further afield.

  • Road from Portree (0.4 miles)

When you get to Portree follow the signs for the harbour. Take the road down to the harbour and at the bottom of the hill (at the Rosedale Hotel) take a sharp left turn.  Harbour House is the third house from the end, it is pink with a red door with the number ‘6’ above.

Parking is directly in front of the house. You will see a couple of signs saying ‘private garden’, this is your parking area and garden space. Please unhook the chain to access. It is best if you hook the chain back up to stop others using your private space.
