Holly House of Hamilton Information

Description

Holly House of Hamilton is a completely restored 6000 square foot Victorian house with five guest rooms. Located in the Presidential Pathways tourist region of Georgia this bed and breakfast is close to Columbus, Atlanta, Pine Mt, Callaway Gardens, FDR State Park and Ft. Benning. Holly House of Hamilton is an 1880’s Victorian home in the Heart of Harris County, Georgia. We are located just 20 miles north of downtown Columbus and 85 miles from Atlanta. Hamilton is a small town in a rural community yet we are suburban as well due to our proximity to Georgia’s two largest cities. Our home is of the Vernacular Cottage style which draws elements from country Victorian homes built in this era including: Gables and Gingerbread trim Wrap-around porch on the front and sides and a large covered porch at the back Four decorative original fireplaces High ceilings throughout the house Music Room Library Grand Hallway that runs the length of the house Crown Mouldings Large Dining Room Original Heart Pine Floors The home was built in 1880 by a young attorney who lived with a family who ran a boarding house here in Hamilton. While staying at that abode he fell in love with the innkeeper’s daughter and married her on her seventeenth birthday, November 23, 1880! This house would become her bridal gift! Benton Haire Walton and Margaret Henderson Williams Walton were married for twenty-five years and had eleven children together in this home. Sadly, Mr. Walton passed on when still in his 40’s leaving his young widow with nine living children. Mrs. Walton lived forty-five more years without her husband in this place which was her home for almost seventy years! Isn’t that amazing? We love to honor Mr. and Mrs. Walton and tell their story of romance! In 1992 the house was restored to it’s original grandeur. When restoration was complete Bed & Breakfast opened as Magnolia Hall before becoming Holly House is 2012.

Your hosts at Holly House are Don & Judy Archibald. They are California transplants having relocated from the city of Manhattan Beach, a suburb of Los Angeles, to the rural countryside of Harris County, Georgia in the Autumn of 2012. Married for 40+ years they are still very much young at heart and delight in their respective occupations. Don recently retired from his General Construction business in California and together they handle the everyday duties of the Bed & Breakfast at Holly House using their unique talents. When she was just four years old Judy asked her Daddy to build her a playhouse like one she had seen on a Sunday afternoon drive. Dad drew up the plans and a tiny to scale home was created. Judy’s Grandmother handpainted a set of Forget-Me-Not China and her Mother taught her how to entertain! Judy still loves to use pretty china and now her Playhouse is 6,149 square feet! She just loves to share this charming old home with others and “Play House!” The Picture of Domesticity!
