Lorum Old Rectory Information
Description
Lorum Old Rectory offers guests relaxed Country House style bed and breakfast accommodation where the emphasis is on making guests feel "at home." The large rooms are elegant and inviting, from the gold hued drawing room to the Victorian red dining room. For those seeking home comforts the cosy study has a wood burning stove, large television and deep sofas. The three bedrooms are all individually decorated. The beds are dressed with crisp cotton sheets and blankets from the local woolen mill. The en suite bathrooms, all with showers, are finished with large white fluffy towels and toiletries.
Dating from 1863, Lorum Old Rectory sits beneath Mount Leinster in the peaceful valley of the River Barrow. Its warm, yellowish, locally cut granite gives it a distinctive and pleasing appearance. The house sits peacefully on the slopes above the River Barrow at Kilgreaney, about halfway between Bagenalstown and Borris. Behind the house are Mount Leinster and the Blackstairs Mountains while in front, across the river, are the plains of Kilkenny. Bobbie Smith and her daughter Rebecca are known for their warm welcome and splendid home baking. They know the area intimately and are always a fund of local knowledge. Bobbie and Rebecca have built up an enviable reputation as a well-run, comfortable house offering good food and good company. They are renowned for their imaginative home cooking, using home-grown or local organic produce wherever possible.
