Seaweed and Sod Farm Bed and Breakfast Information

Description

Our 100-acre earth-friendly century farm is nestled in the UNESCO Bras d'Or Lake Biosphere, smack dab in the middle of magnificent somewhere! We have stunning views of the Bras d’Or Lake and the Cape Breton Highlands. Relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of our Bed and Breakfast while you take in the fabulous sunsets. There are two bedrooms (with a queen-size bed in each) and a shared bath on the second floor. The common areas are on the main floor. The Whale room looks out over the Bras d'Or Lake and the Eagle room looks over the farm. We have a Percheron Draft horse team, a feisty adopted pony, two llamas, and Cotswold sheep (a rare breed) but we are focused on raising rare and heritage breed turkeys and chickens. You will most likely be greeted by Fauna, our livestock guardian dog, and maybe even by Shamus, our mixed-breed rescue dog. A meet and greet with the livestock can be arranged. We have a pond/garden (under construction) where you can watch frogs and dragonflies. The view from the top of our hill is spectacular and is a great place to watch the sun set. If you are here at the right time there is an abundance of wild blueberries up on that hill. There are also approximately 3 km of walking trails carved out in our woods and meadow. Just up the road is the beautiful little community-maintained Ross Ferry Marine Park. It has a walking trail, lake access, playground equipment and a green gym. On Sunday afternoons there is a Farmers Market at the Firehall (right next door) and volunteers cook up hot dogs, sausages and the best fries on the island at the Park.
