The Shoes Information

Winner of the television series Four in a bed, is justified by the cleanliness of the rooms the friendly and warm welcome and especially the hearty breakfast. We have three tastefully decorated bedrooms offering bed and breakfast accommodation. The location is perfect for those wishing to visit Durham City and the surrounding areas. Recently renovated and refurbished. There are three twin bedrooms all beautifully furnished. Each room has en suite bathroom, wall mounted flat screen TV with freeview and tea/coffee making facilities. WiFi internet access also available. Durham a World Heritage Site has a Castle and Cathedral which is a must to explore. A University City, Durham has many historical places of interest also many restaurants and bars. For many centuries, Durham was a virtually independent state ruled by the Prince Bishops not the Crown. The Prince Bishops were more or less the “Kings of County Durham”. This is why Durham is now known as the “Land of the Prince Bishops” You can cruise on the river with the Prince Bishops Riverboat, or take out a rowing boat yourself, both available for hire. Situated about 12 miles from Durham is the Award winning Beamish open air Museum, bringing history back to life, a fascinating visit. All nearby:- Golf Clubs are at Ramside Hall, Durham City Golf Club and at Brancepath Castle. For Cricket enthusiasts Durham City Cricket Club at Chester-le-Street Cricket ground is nearby. Newcastle and Sunderland host football stadiums, which also have fantastic shopping facilities. Gateshead near Newcastle has the renowned Metro Shopping Centre, also well worth a visit is Anthony Gormley’s “Angel of the North” also situated in Gateshead.

I opened the Shoes in May 2008- after many years working in the licensed trade running restaurants and Bars including bed and breakfast properties. I decided it was time to invest in my own property and found the location and property when the Shoes came up for sale, formerly known as the Three Horseshoes in Gilesgate Durham. The property has undergone extensive renovation including a fully refurbished bar-beer garden-kitchen and also incorporates 3 letting bedrooms all en-suite.
