Description
The Chandler House Bed and Breakfast located near South Boston Speedway was built in 1929. It's perfect for a romantic getaway or a cozy overnight stay on the way to the mountains. Located right outside of South Boston Virginia, you can do what your heart desires. From hiking, mountain biking, swimming, shopping to just reading and relaxing there are endless possibilities! While you're here, take in a race at the short track in South Boston or at Halifax County's world renowned Virginia International Raceway just minutes away. In the mornings, the Chandler House owner will entice you with a delicious home-cooked breakfast. Made of baked apples, home fries, home made biscuits, country ham, bacon, sausage, or gourmet pancakes topped with fresh fruit and creme fresh. Of course, you will have your choice of fresh juices, coffee or tea. Our breakfasts are made to get your day started right. At The Chandler House B & B we want you to feel right at home. Our goal is to have each guest feel as if they are just old friends stopping by for a visit.
The Chandler House is owned and operated by Donna and Jon Chandler. These newly retired school teachers have worked on restoring the American Foursquare farmhouse to i's glory days. Over a seven year period, they have completed most of the restorations themselves. Donna is from Halifax County and Jon has lived here for over twenty years. They met at Halifax County Middle School were they both worked for most of their careers. After teaching for over twenty years each, there's not many people, locations, or activities in Halifax County that they are not fiermilyour with. Donna and Jon enjoy the outdoors. Both were raised on farms in virginia and are active in the Southern Virginia Botanical Gardens, were Jon has served as president for the last five years. Donna is the current president of the Halifax Herb Club and is a member of the Alton Homes club. Jon serves on the FFA Alumni, as well as many other agriculture related boards in the county. Once a month Jon has started offering adult blacksmithing classes as part of the Virginia School of Traditional Arts. Other types of classes ie: green woodworking, cast iron cooking, and gardening classes are in the works.
