The Chequers Fowlmere Information

Description

The Chequers is a stunning 16th century Inn that has been sympathetically refurbished in 2019. The menu is consists of hearty pub grub and amazing sourdough flatbreads, served in an informal environment with open fires (priest holes) and friendly locals. The pub is open 5 days a week, Wednesday-Sunday, however the B&B operates 7 days a week, with breakfast served in the lounge area. If you would like an evening mean on a Sunday, Monday or Tuesday night, please consider our sister pub, The Green Man in Thriplow. It's just a mile away, and very lovely. There are 4 cosy letting rooms, one of which is double sized and has a kitchenette and dining area. The Chequers is 5 minutes from Duxford ideal for anyone visiting the air museum and Fowlmere has its own beautiful RSPB nature sanctuary, fantastic for nature lovers. The Chequers is well known for catering for the US & British airmen and women from WW11 stationed at Fowlmere air base with their pictures still hanging above the fantastic fireplace in the bar. There are records stating that Samuel Pepys also frequented the pub in the 17th century. Cambridge is 15 minutes away and Royston 5 minutes away, giving you all the local amenities you need, whilst enjoying a beautiful rural location. There is free Wifi, a large car park and a stunning patio and garden to enjoy in the warmer months.

Directions

  • Road from Cambridge & M11 (2.0 miles)

    Travel West from junction 10 of the M11 along the A505 leaving Duxford Air museum on your left hand side. After 1.5 miles Fowlmere is sign posted turning right off the A505. Once on the High street in Fowlmere The Chequers appears on your left after a sharp bend to the right.

  • Road from Royston & A1 (3.0 miles)

    Travel East along the A505 from the A1 (Baldock) junction 9. passing Royston on your left after about 5 miles. Fowlmere is sign posted on your left, turning off at The Coach House at Flint Cross. Follow the road in to Fowlmere and The Chequers comes up on your left after a sharp right bend.
