“The Jewell” is named after Jewell Powell-Matthews who was the matriarch and last surviving sibling of the 12 Powell children, many living in the house their entire lives. We purchased the Powell–Matthews house in 2006 from our local Historic Society. They acquired it from descendants of the Powell family in hopes of saving this great house after years of neglect. We spent 10 years traveling back and forth from our home in Florida lovingly restoring The Jewell, determined to bring her back to the beauty she once was. We moved here full time in 2016 and now call this home. It is a work in progress but we are pleased with the strides we have made to date. Located in the heart of the Vienna’s historic district, we are honored to be only the 2nd family to call this circa 1895, 4300 square foot, Mid-Victorian our home. Listed on the National Registry of Historic Homes this Timeless Classic features 6 Fire Places, 12’ Ceilings, a Grand Staircase and Hardwood Oak Floors throughout. It has 6 Bedrooms with Private Bathrooms, a Parlor, a Family Room, the Kitchen, the Dining Room, a large Foyer, the 45' x 9' Main Hall and a large owners suite. They are all decorated with 100’s of period antiques and beautiful reproductions all of which reflect the Victorian era of the house. One guest commented that she actually had to take a seat in each room in order to truly take in all of the Antiques we have incorporated into the décor or the house. Like most large century old houses we have a wrap-around porch with rocking chairs and of course a porch swing. There is ample Private Parking and there is even room for a Camper or Motor Home. The areas surrounding the house which include many flowering plants when in bloom and a Koi Pond are yours to enjoy and we hope you will. A home cooked southern breakfast awaits you each morning.
