We'd love to welcome you to Virginia House. Business or pleasure, you'll be pleased you came to Ulverston, an historic market town of warmth and character. Ideally located close (but not too close!) to the major industries of the area, Glaxo SmithKline, Kimberley Clark, BAE Systems to name but a few, yet also conveniently and quietly nestled on the edge of World Heritage Site the English Lake District with plenty of attractions for all. Dine at Craig's Kitchen at Virginia House with Chef Craig Sherrington of BBC2 Great British Menu 2018 then retire to one of our 8 cosy guest bedrooms, ready for a hearty Cumbrian breakfast the following morning. Room reservation does not guarantee table availability. So please, if you wish to dine with us, give us a call to book your table or pop onto our website to make a table reservation. Accessibility

Virginia House is accessed from street level by 6 shallow steps with hand railings on both sides. Our restaurant and gents toilets are on the ground floor. Our ladies toilets and one guest bedroom are on the first floor, accessed by a flight of shallow rise stairs with a landing midway, handrails on both sides. The remaining 7 letting rooms are on the second floor, accessed by a flight of standard rise stairs with hand rails on both sides and a landing midway. Virginia House is a period Georgian building of Grade II listed status and does not have a lift or disabled toilet facilities.

Directions

  • Road from M6 J36 (24.0 miles)
    From M6 J36 follow the A590 to Ulverston for 23.7 miles, on approaching Ulverston (Texaco service station, Booth supermarket) at the first roundabout take the second exit, at the next roundabout take the 3rd exit, follow the B5281 to a mini roundabout, take the first exit onto King Street, carry along over a pedestrian crossing, past the Market Cross and Natwest Bank onto Queen Street - Virginia House is 200m on your right.
  • Train from Ulverston Train Station (0.3 miles)
    Walk east to Princes St, turn left onto Princes St, at the traffic light crossroads, cross straight over, Virginia House is approx 100m on your left. Approx. 6 minute walking time. Taxi available from station.
  • Air from Manchester Airport (96.0 miles)
    There is a direct train from Manchester Airport to Barrow in Furness which stops at Ulverston Station. Train journey approx 2 hours. If driving travel North on M6 from Manchester Airport and follow road directions from M6 J36. Driving time approx. 1h 40min.
