The Sanctuary Cornwall Information

Description

The Sanctuary Cornwall offers 4 beautiful ensuite bedrooms for bed & breakfast or retreats/courses.Each room overlooks the Fowey River, with it’s own outdoor seating area on the terrace, accessed through large, triple glazed glass doors. We also have a spacious meeting room with a kitchen and ensuite wet room, which can be converted and hired as a self catering apartment, with a kingsize bed. We also have a handcrafted offgrid glamping pod in the trees. There is underfloor heating throughout, fabulous views, walk in showers, and the rooms also have organic, fair trade linen, wool duvets, handmade soap, rugs and blankets made from spun recycled bottles, a USB charging socket, a seating area and plenty of books. Breakfast is a continental buffet, with everything as locally sourced as possible. Tea & Coffee is available all day in the Breakfast room and our own water is offered in bottles in your room, with recycled glasses. The building has wooden floors and doors, and is painted with clay paint. Furniture is upcycled, repurposed, furnishings largely handmade, and we feature as much local artwork as possible, some of it to purchase. The entire building is insulated with 12inches of wool and we have solar for power and a log boiler for heating. We are situated in 12 acres of mixed wood and pasture in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with fantastic views over the Fowey River, the village of Golant, and the surrounding countryside. Guest are welcome to explore our land where we are slowly increasing the wildlife habitats and diversity. We can also arrange therapeutic massage and treatments in your room, provided by a local practitioner, and our land joins the Saints Way, a walking path from Fowey to Padstow. We can arrange kayaking, and paddle boarding tuition is also available locally. We have no TVs or WiFi, although 4G can be found! We do however, have plenty of books, radios, games, walks and seats. Switch off, relax and enjoy your Sanctuary in Cornwall!

The Sanctuary Cornwall is our award winning, carbon neutral sustainable living project based in the lovely waterside village of Golant at the heart of the Fowey Estuary. Our interest is on exploring a sustainable environment in a relaxed and respectful way and sharing our discoveries with others who want to connect to nature, step back, and engage with the elements of offgrid living. We want to prove that it is possible to have a comfortable, connected lifestyle whilst still acting in a thoughtful and sustainable way. We are developing permaculture growing systems too. We don’t have TVs or WiFi, but at least you can hear the bird song, take a deep breath of Cornish air, and relax! If you are lucky, you may see deer, owls and watch the bats flying at dusk. Both of us were intimately involved in all aspects of the build, and are always happy to talk about it, our experience, and what we would do differently, if anyone is interested in following in our footsteps! We are usually somewhere about - either in the building, or on our land!
