Wayside Cottage Information
Description
Welcome to Wayside Cottage, a charming old (circa 1637) farmhouse nestled at the foot of the majestic Black Combe fell in the western Lake District. The Cottage, carefully restored to offer modern comfort and convenience, is part of the Wayside and Whisky Barn bed and breakfast complex. It provides the flexibility and privacy of self-catering accommodations, yet with easy access to the amenities of the Wayside just steps away. A path flanked by ancient stone walls leads to a hike on the fell, offering a magnificent vista of the sea and distant hills. Silecroft Beach is a five-minute drive away, or a hike across the fields, for a seaside sunset stroll. You are welcome to relax in the large private stone-walled garden or stop in the adjoining Whisky Barn to try one of the select whiskies on offer. After that walk on the fell, you’ll want to relax in the Cottage’s cozy sitting room with its wood-burning fireplace. An adjoining spacious dining room has old oak beams, ancient worn slate floors, a wood-burning stove and access to the front enclosed garden. A large, well-stocked kitchen features an Esse cooker, Cumbrian slate countertops, and views of the fell and rear garden. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with a comfortable king-sized bed, the other with both a king-sized and a single bed. There is a modern bathroom with tub and shower upstairs, and a second bathroom with shower in the utility room downstairs, which also provides a washer and dryer for guest use. Enjoy your morning tea or happy hour wine in the new light-filled conservatory, with sweeping views of Black Combe and resident sheep. The Cottage sleeps up to five guests. One well-behaved dog is welcome in the downstairs area; we ask that a dog not be allowed upstairs to prevent damage to the new oak staircase. Free, fast wi-fi is available. Secure parking is steps away for up to two cars.
