The Steppes Information

Description

Set in beautiful Herefordshire countryside yet only minutes from Hereford City centre, The Steppes Bed & Breakfast offers stylish accommodation with the luxury you would expect from a top rate bed and breakfast establishment. An historical building in its own right, The Steppes is said to date back to the 16th Century when Henry VIII was King of England and England was torn by the Restoration. Although we are located in the heart of some very pretty Herefordshire countryside, we have adapted our facilities to enable everyone to enjoy the location. There are four delightful ensuite rooms, contained within an extension and annexe to the house, offering the highest standards of comfort. Full accessability is provided to three rooms and there is a flight of stairs to the fourth. As mentioned above, The Steppes dates back to 1530, and today is a happy home for Lin and Martin. Lin is a keen advocate for self-sufficiency and as such has a large vegetable plot stocked with supplies for the year, plus chickens, sheep and bees. If the bees have been busy this year, there will be honey available for sale – just ask Lin for details. Breakfast eggs are supplied courtesy of local free range chickens and all ingredients are sourced from local Hereford suppliers where possible. Each room has been lavishly furnished with the latest designs and equipped with crisp white bed linen and fluffy white towels, free WiFi, Freeview colour TVs, tea and coffee making facilities and fridge. Large windows look out to the gardens and pond, offering pleasant views at any time of the year. We have one king suite with lounge area, two king en suite rooms, and one twin room. Walkers and cyclists and dogs (in the Red Room) are welcome. Lin and Martin, your hosts, are both keen to bring you an experience you will want to repeat, whether you are on holiday or on a business trip. They will assist with local knowledge

Directions

  • Road from Hereford (4.0 miles)
Take A438 out of Hereford (Ledbury). Continue across the Lugg Flats, over Lugg Bridge and up the hill into Lugwardine. The Church is on your right. Turn left into Lumber Lane, immediately opposite the Church. Follow the road for approx ¼ mile when the road forks to the right and an unadopted road forks to the left. Take the unadopted road to the left and once on that road, the track forks again. Continue straight ahead into the copse (don’t bear left). This is The Steppes drive.
  • Road from Ledbury (11.0 miles)
Take the A438 towards Hereford and continue for approximately 12 miles when you will arrive in the village of Bartestree. Continue through Bartestree on the A438, dropping down into Lugwardine. The Church will be seen on your left. There is a difficult turning to the right into Lumber Lane (you will need to almost drive past the turning in order to ensure your safety in crossing the traffic). Turn right into Lumber Lane and continue as above.
  • Road from Worcester (23.0 miles)
Follow Hereford directions from Worcester on the A4103 for approximately 23 miles until you arrive in the village of Whitestone or Withington. Pass the car showroom on your left. Pass the garden centre on your left, drive over the small bridge and take the next left into Lumber Lane. Continue along Lumber Lane for approximately 1 mile and you will see the first house on the right. Turn sharply right into the unadopted road immediately behind The Beehives. Continue as above.
